The Ruff Ryders are back. The highly influential late 1990's rap label and management company, which launched the careers of DMX, Eve, Drag-On and The LOX, has announced that it will be releasing several projects in 2010, via its new label Ruff Ryder Indy.
The label will provide distribution to independent artists of all budget types. Ruff Ryder Indy's first release will be Drag-On's My Life, My Legacy, My Melody, due out in March, as part of a joint venture with Drag's label, Hood Environment, which he founded in 2006. "I've reinvented myself and created a whole new sound," Drag-On said in a recent statement. "I'm trying to create another umbrella in this game with my label and my artists Da Dude and Eyez B. However, I'm still the original 'Fire-Man."
Ruff Ryder Indy's second release will be Ruff Ryders Evolution: Generation I, which will be helmed by super-producer Swizz Beatz, featuring all of the original Ruff Ryders, including Jadakiss, Styles P, Sheek Louch, Eve, DMX, Drag-On and newest signing, Mook.
"Over the last 20 years, my family and I have built the Ruff Ryders brand on good music, original talent and hard work," Ruff Ryder CEO Waah Dean said. "Now, we are entering a new chapter of our company.
If you have not seen a re-run or the first run of "VH-1's Hip-Hop Honors," you really have not missed much with the exception of a few key performances. Overall, the show was not worth two consecutive hours sitting in front of the tube. Missing the most successful artists on the Def Jam Recordings roster, who was honored for its 25th anniversary, including LL Cool J, Jay-Z and Kanye West defeated the purpose of celebrating Def Jam Records. In fact, co-founder Russell Simmons shared his disappointment by calling the ceremony "incomplete."
You can check the performances here. There are a handful to enjoy including performances by Method Man as well as laughable ones by Foxy Brown and JaRule.
Enjoy!
