California rapper The Game has been on top of the west coast rap game since 2005, and he boasts about it in "Breakin' Rules." This laid-back Cali song featuring New York hip-hop icon Busta Rhymes personifies gangsta rap at its best. The tune is very reminiscent of the signature Cali sound of the 1990s that solidified the glory days of red and blue clothing, flannel shirts, hydrolics and low riders. However, the purpose of this tune magnifies the bravado of The Game's importance in the game. With phrases like "run this city like Puff Combs," "we be droppin' gangsta shit while my competition's rapping love songs," "in three years flat I'm crowned king of the west coast" and "[Dr. Dre] can't finished Detox without fuckin' with me," Jayceon Taylor has argued his case as Cali's top emcee flawlessly.
If this song serves an indication of the direction of the upcoming R.E.D. album, the album may become a classic.
