This kind of news makes me so hopeful about modern music. Since some of my favorite singers including Sade, Erykah Badu and Toni Braxton will release new albums in the next few months, I am equally pleased to learn that the R&B/neo-soul queen Jill Scott will release her fourth studio album The Light Of The Sun during the spring or summer season. Scott, who has not release new music material since The Real Thing album in 2007, worked her way through TV and film in the past few years. She is currently nominated for a NAACP Image Award for her leading role in the critically acclaimed TV hit “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency” on HBO. Scott will be featured in the April 2 release of the Tyler Perry-produced film Why Did I Get Married Too co-starring Janet Jackson, Malik Yoba, Keyshia Cole, Monica and Tasha Smith. Additionally, the title of new mother has been added to her role with the birth of her son Jett Hamilton Roberts in April 2009. In promotion of her new music, she will embark on the Lilith Fair Tour with fellow soul singers Mary J. Blige and Erykah Badu and pop/rock singers Sheryl Crow, Sarah MacLachlan and Colbie Callat. With that kind of line-up, I will attend a Lilith Fairconcert for my first time. Check out the tour’s website here.
